Ahead of the October 10 gubernatorial elections in Ondo state, the African Action Congress (AAC) has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of substituting the name of its deputy governorship candidate. In a report by The Sun, AAC alleged that the name of the running mate to its governorship candidate, Adekunle Adeleye was different from the one submitted.
INEC had released the name of one Samuel Tope Omotosho as the deputy governorship candidate for AAC.
AAC kicked against INEC’s position, stating the name of Mrs. Mopelola Evelyn Ibrahim was sent to INEC as the governorship candidate’s running mate. The party expressed shock to see that her name was replaced by INEC.
The governorship candidate while stating that INEC’s action was unexpected, added that the name listed by INEC was not on the party’s register. Adeleye said he was surprised to see Omotosho’s name as his running mate, but he thinks it was a human error. Alex Adeniyi, the Ondo state chairman of the party on his part alleged that INEC has distorted the list of names for the election. Adeniyi further said legal steps had been taken t correct the mistake before the August 18 deadline for political parties to correct the names of their candidates.
